More about this category
The Scorpion EXO-TECH II is the new generation of flip-back modular helmet from ScorpionEXO. As the successor to the popular EXO-TECH EVO, the helmet has been developed further in a number of important areas. The distinctive flip-back system remains, allowing the chin bar to be folded fully to the back, but Scorpion has further improved the mechanism, ventilation, sealing, noise reduction and comfort, among other things.
The result is a versatile modular helmet with ECE 22.06 P/J approval, developed for riders who want to combine the convenience of a flip-back helmet with a high level of comfort for everyday use and longer touring rides.
Within the EXO-TECH II series you can choose from several versions. Alongside the standard Scorpion EXO-TECH II with a thermoplastic/polycarbonate outer shell, there is the lighter and more luxurious Scorpion EXO-TECH II Carbon. If you are after an even more exclusive version, there is also the special EXO-TECH II Carbon Onyx.
One of the most important features of the Scorpion EXO-TECH II is the redesigned flip-back system. The chin bar can be folded fully to the back, so you can easily switch between a closed and an open configuration.
For the EXO-TECH II, Scorpion has redesigned the chin bar mechanism. New tension springs give smoother operation and more precise movement of the chin bar. The way you open the chin bar has changed too. The push button of the EXO-TECH EVO has given way to a pull-out lever that opens the chin bar with a hinging movement. This keeps the system easy to operate, while making accidental opening more difficult.
The hook of the chin bar on the EXO-TECH II is also covered. This design helps guide the chin bar correctly as it closes and at the same time gives a neater finish.
The helmet has ECE 22.06 P/J approval, which means it is approved for use with the chin bar both closed and open.
When developing the EXO-TECH II, Scorpion paid a lot of attention to reducing unwanted riding and wind noise.
Around the visor there is a newly developed seal that fits the visor more precisely. This reduces air leakage and noise and gives a better seal when the visor is closed.
The position of the openings for the chin strap has also changed. They have been moved to the underside of the chin EPS and are therefore further from the ear and speaker area. In addition, extra flaps have been added to the edges of the cheek pads, which help to reduce road and engine noise.
These improvements make the EXO-TECH II particularly appealing for commuting, holidays and riders who regularly cover longer distances.
The ventilation system of the Scorpion EXO-TECH II has also been thoroughly reworked. The helmet has a redesigned EPS structure with deeper air channels and extra vent openings around the upper part of the head.
Fresh air is channelled through the helmet via the top air intake. The deeply sculpted EPS air channels then help to carry heat away from the head. At the back there are four integrated exhaust vents that efficiently expel warm air from the helmet.
The airflow at the front has been adjusted as well. Incoming air is directed more precisely along the visor instead of towards the eyes. With this, Scorpion aims both to reduce the chance of a misted-up visor and to improve comfort while riding.
The Scorpion EXO-TECH II Carbon is developed for use in a wide range of weather and light conditions. The helmet comes supplied with a Pinlock Original 120 XLT and has the integrated SpeedView drop-down sun visor.
The sun visor mechanism has also been improved. Where the EXO-TECH EVO used a wound wire construction, the EXO-TECH II has a straight wire design. With this, Scorpion is aiming for smoother operation and a more durable mechanism.
The EXO-TECH II also uses a new type of two-piece Pinlock pins for easier fitting. The main visor is easier to remove too: no special tool, screwdriver or coin is needed any more to take the visor off.
An interesting new visor option within the Scorpion EXO-TECH II series is the Photochromic visor. This is a self-tinting visor that reacts to the amount of UV light and can therefore change tint automatically.
In bright sunlight the visor gets darker, while with less UV light it becomes lighter again. This means you do not have to keep switching by hand between, for example, a clear and a dark visor when the light conditions change during your ride.
That makes a Photochromic visor especially appealing for riders who do long rides or face strongly changing light conditions during the day. Think of a ride that starts in the morning, is ridden in full sun during the day and only ends later in the day.
Besides the Photochromic visor, there are various other visor options available for the EXO-TECH II, including Clear, Smoke, Dark Smoke, Silver Mirror, Blue Mirror and Red Mirror.
For many touring riders, a communication system is by now indispensable. Scorpion has taken this into account in developing the EXO-TECH II as well.
The helmet has a dedicated mounting provision for the Scorpion EXOCOM LINK-1, LINK-1C and PULSE. These systems are compatible with Scorpion's Twist-Lock fixing.
At the same time, you are not obliged to choose an EXOCOM system. Scorpion has deliberately left space between the outer shell and the EPS for fitting a universal intercom clamp. This means many other communication systems can also be neatly fitted to the EXO-TECH II.
Within the new series, Scorpion distinguishes between the standard EXO-TECH II and the more luxurious EXO-TECH II Carbon.
The standard EXO-TECH II uses a thermoplastic/polycarbonate outer shell. The EXO-TECH II Carbon, on the other hand, has a carbon fibre outer shell and is therefore the premium version of the series.
According to Scorpion's specifications, the Carbon weighs approximately 1.550 ± 50 grams with the smaller shell and 1.600 ± 50 grams with the larger shell. The EXO-TECH II Carbon is produced in two shells: one for XS to L and one for XL to 3XL.
If you want the benefits of carbon along with a more eye-catching and exclusive look, there is the Scorpion EXO-TECH II Carbon Onyx. This version stands out thanks to its special ONYX carbon pattern, which gives every helmet a unique look.
With the EXO-TECH II series, Scorpion builds on the concept that made the EXO-TECH EVO popular. The practical flip-back design remains, but important components have been redesigned or further refined.
A redesigned chin bar mechanism, improved ventilation, a better visor seal, extra measures against riding noise, an integrated sun visor, Pinlock 120 XLT and wider options for communication systems make the EXO-TECH II a complete modular helmet for everyday use and long motorcycle rides.
