More about this category
The Vespa scooter as we know it today originated in Italy. Enrico Piaggio is the founder of the well-known Piaggio brand. The Italian company Piaggio was originally an (war)plane manufacturer, but when it could no longer build aeroplanes after the Second World War, he turned his passion to something else. That was the start of the Piaggio brand, but not yet of the Vespa brand. In 1946 he produced the first Vespa (which means ‘wasp’ in Italian) for the private market. So soon after the war, the Vespa quickly became a symbol of freedom. Over the years the company has moved with the times, which has led to the Vespa scooter being known all over the world today.
