Never again a misted-up visor: everything you need to know about Pinlock
What a Pinlock is, the difference between Pinlock 30, 70 and 120, which helmets are Pinlock-ready and how to fit the insert in four steps.

In this article9 sections
A Pinlock is an anti-fog insert that clips onto the inside of your visor between two small pins. The silicone seal creates an airtight barrier, so your visor stays clear even in cold or rainy weather. Your helmet does need to be Pinlock-ready, and you can choose from Pinlock 30, 70 or 120.
What is a Pinlock?
A Pinlock is an anti-fog insert that you fit to the inside of your visor. By creating an airtight seal between the Pinlock and the visor, it keeps your view clear, even in cold or rainy weather. The system was developed for riders who value safety and comfort. No more misted-up visor, just a clear view.
What is a Pinlock helmet?
A Pinlock helmet is a motorcycle helmet with a visor that is specially prepared for use with a Pinlock insert. You can recognise these visors by the two small pins on either side of the visor. These hold the Pinlock insert in place. Brands such as Scorpion, Shark, AGV, Arai and HJC supply the vast majority of their helmets with a Pinlock-ready visor as standard.
Please note: most helmets come with a Pinlock insert in the box, but there are exceptions. Always check which version is supplied with the helmet.
Which Pinlock do you get with your helmet?
Not every helmet is supplied with the same type of Pinlock. Here is a handy overview:
- Scorpion EXO-TECH EVO → comes with Pinlock 70 as standard
- Scorpion EXO-TECH EVO Pro & Carbon → comes with Pinlock 120 as standard, thanks to their more luxurious character
- Arai SZ-R VAS & SZ-R EVO → come with a high-quality Pinlock 120 insert as standard
- HJC, Shark, AGV → varies, usually Pinlock 70 (check per model)
ROOF and Pinlock: how does it work?
Not all ROOF helmets are suitable for use with a Pinlock insert. Most models, such as the popular ROOF Boxer, are not Pinlock-ready. These visors do have an anti-fog coating, but you cannot fit a separate insert.
Exception: the ROOF RO200 series does come with a Pinlock-ready visor. You can even use a high-quality Pinlock 120 with it. If you are looking for maximum anti-fog protection from ROOF, the RO200 is therefore your best choice.
The different types: Pinlock 30, 70 and 120
Not every Pinlock is the same. Depending on the kind of riding you do and your helmet, you can choose a suitable model:
Pinlock 30
The Pinlock 30 is the entry-level option, suitable for city use and short rides. It offers basic protection against fogging.
Pinlock 70
The most popular choice. The Pinlock 70 offers excellent anti-fog performance and is ideal for everyday use and touring.
Pinlock 120
The Pinlock 120 is the top of the range among Pinlocks. This insert is thicker and more durable, and often comes as standard with premium helmets.
Fit it yourself: fitting a Pinlock visor in 4 steps
Fitting a Pinlock visor is easier than you think:
- Open the visor fully or remove it from the helmet
- Clean the inside of the visor with a soft cloth
- Place the Pinlock insert between the pins with the silicone edge facing the visor
- Press down so that the insert seals properly
Tip: some models, such as the Pinlock Scorpion EXO-TECH, require a specific shape and size. So always check carefully that you have the right one!
Conclusion: better vision means safer riding
Whether you choose the affordable Pinlock 30, the versatile Pinlock 70 or the advanced Pinlock 120: a clear visor is essential for your safety on the bike. Does every Pinlock fit every visor?
No. Each helmet and visor has its own suitable Pinlock type. Always check the specifications or contact our customer service.
What is the difference between Pinlock 70 and 120?
The Pinlock 120 has a more advanced coating and is thicker than the 70. This gives you even better, longer-lasting protection against misting up.
Can I reuse a Pinlock?
Yes, as long as the silicone seal is still in good condition. Is it damaged? Then we recommend replacing it.
