Short answer

Scorpion is a South Korean helmet brand from KIDO Sports, founded in the early 2000s. Almost the entire production process takes place in its own factory, The Big Nest, and every helmet is ECE 22-06 certified. Technology such as the inflatable AirFit cheek pads and the SpeedView sun visor can also be found in affordable models such as the EXO-520 Evo Air.

Who is Scorpion? The history of a helmet giant

Scorpion helmets are produced by KIDO Sports, a company with deep roots in helmet innovation. The brand was founded in the early 2000s and quickly grew into one of the world's leading helmet brands. As early as 2006, Scorpion achieved second place in the Overall Helmet Satisfaction Index from J.D. Power and Associates, an independent consumer organisation.

What appeals to me personally about Scorpion is their philosophy: they want to challenge the status quo of the motorcycle helmet market with innovative, intelligently designed products. And you can see that in every detail of their helmets. From the materials to the fit, everything has been thought through.

Key Scorpion milestones

  • 2006: Second place in the J.D. Power Helmet Satisfaction Index and certification by the Korea Industrial Technology Association
  • 2006: Founding of the European branch Scorpion Sports Europe (SSEU)
  • 2011: EXO-750 Air in the top 5 Full Face Helmets by Moto Journal
  • 2014: EXO-R2000 wins the PowerSports Business “Nifty Fifty” Award
  • 2015: Scorpion recognised as Best Brands by Europa Trophy
  • 2021: Opening of the new KIDO Sports VINA factory in Vietnam
  • 2025: Launch of the new collection at EICMA, including the EXO-R1 Evo II Air and ADF-9000 Carbon Air

The Big Nest: where Scorpion helmets are born

One of the things that sets Scorpion apart from many competitors is its own production facility: The Big Nest. This is an ultramodern factory of no less than 86,000 square metres, where up to 600 skilled workers are employed. What makes The Big Nest so special is that almost the entire production process takes place under one roof.

Think fibreglass and Kevlar moulding, polycarbonate shell moulding, EPS liners, the sewing of inner linings, waterslide decal production, cleanroom spray booths, assembly and packaging. Many other helmet brands outsource large parts of their production to external suppliers. Scorpion deliberately doesn't, because they want to control every detail.

This translates directly into quality. Every Scorpion motorcycle helmet is ECE 22-06 certified, the latest and strictest European safety standard. When I put on a Scorpion helmet, I can feel that difference in finish straight away.

The technology behind Scorpion helmets

What really won me over about Scorpion is the technology they put into their helmets. This isn't marketing talk, but genuinely clever innovations that you notice as a rider. Let me take you through the most important technologies.

TCT: Thermodynamic Composite Technology

The Ultra TCT carbon shell is perhaps Scorpion's most impressive technology. Using pre-preg technology, carbon fibres are compressed under high pressure and temperature. The result? A shell that is extremely light, yet offers exceptional stiffness and energy absorption in an impact.

You'll find this technology in premium models such as the Exo-Tech Evo Carbon and the Exo-1400 Evo II Carbon Air. The difference in weight compared with a regular polycarbonate helmet is noticeable the moment you pick the helmet up.

AirFit: the inflatable cheek pad system

For me personally, this is one of Scorpion's biggest plus points. The AirFit system consists of inflatable cheek pads that let you decide how snug the helmet is. With a small pump on the underside of the helmet, you inflate the pads until the fit is perfect.

No two heads are the same, and with AirFit you eliminate pressure points and vibrations. A snugger helmet also reduces wind noise and drag. I notice the difference most on the motorway, where a well-fitting helmet makes the difference between a relaxed ride and a headache when you get home.

KwikWick III: the liner that breathes

The KwikWick III inner lining is fully removable, washable and hypoallergenic. The fabric is anti-microbial and moisture-wicking, so you stay comfortable even on hot summer days. The 3D cheek pads adapt to the shape of your face for optimal comfort.

An extra plus point: thanks to the KwikFit system, Scorpion helmets are also excellent for glasses wearers. The inside has special recesses for the arms of your glasses, so they slide comfortably along your temples without pressure points.

SpeedView: the integrated sun visor

Almost all Scorpion helmets have a SpeedView sun visor. Using a slider on the left-hand side of the helmet, you can lower the tinted visor when the sun is dazzling you, and raise it again when you ride into a tunnel or a shaded road. Both sides are treated with an anti-fog coating.

No more fuss with two visors or a separate pair of sunglasses. Quick, practical and safe.

Ellip-Tec: changing the visor without tools

The Ellip-Tec visor system makes it possible to change your visor in a few seconds without any tools. Ideal if you want to fit a tinted visor for sunny days, or if your visor needs replacing. Combined with the Pinlock MaxVision insert that is included as standard with many models, you always have a clear view without fogging.

Scorpion full-face helmets: maximum protection

Scorpion's full-face helmets form the backbone of the range. With more than 130 versions in our range, there's a suitable helmet for every rider and every budget. Let me highlight the most popular models.

Scorpion Exo-1400 Evo II Air: the sporty all-rounder

The Scorpion Exo-1400 Evo II Air is one of the best-selling helmets in our range, and not without reason. This fibreglass full-face helmet offers an excellent combination of sportiness, comfort and safety. The helmet is available in two shell sizes for an optimal fit and comes with all the Scorpion technologies I described earlier.

The carbon version, the Exo-1400 Evo II Carbon Air, is for those who want the ultimate in lightweight performance. With the TCT carbon shell you notice the difference in weight straight away. Perfect for long rides or sporty riding.

Scorpion EXO-1500: the new top helmet

Brand new in our range is the Scorpion EXO-1500. This is the successor to the popular 1400 line and brings a number of serious improvements. The helmet has a more aerodynamic design and is lighter and quieter than its predecessor. The EXO-1500 is available both as a polycarbonate version and as a premium carbon version.

What I find special about the EXO-1500 is the improved ventilation and the new visor system, which offers an even wider field of view. This is a helmet that can really compete with the big names in the premium segment.

Scorpion EXO-530: the versatile newcomer

The EXO-530 is one of the newest additions to the Scorpion range. This full-face helmet positions itself as a versatile all-rounder at a sharp price. Ideal for daily commuting, a weekend ride or a longer tour.

The EXO-530 shares a lot of technology with the more expensive models, but in a polycarbonate shell that makes it more budget-friendly. A great choice if you want Scorpion quality without breaking the bank.

Scorpion EXO-520 Evo Air: the budget champion

If you're looking for the best value for money in a full-face helmet, the EXO-520 Evo Air is an absolute winner. For a sharp price you get a helmet with AirFit, a SpeedView sun visor, a KwikWick liner and ECE 22-06 certification.

I regularly recommend this helmet to new riders. You get all the essential Scorpion technologies, an excellent fit and a helmet that looks sharp too. It doesn't need to cost any more than that.

Scorpion modular helmets: the best of both worlds

Modular helmets are hugely popular with touring riders and commuters, and Scorpion is one of the absolute leaders in this segment. A modular helmet combines the protection of a full-face helmet with the convenience of an open-face helmet: you can flip up the chin bar to have a chat at the petrol station or to get a breath of fresh air in town.

Scorpion Exo-Tech Evo: our absolute bestseller

The Scorpion Exo-Tech Evo is our best-selling Scorpion helmet for good reason. This modular helmet has dual homologation (P/J certification), which means it is approved both as a full-face helmet and as an open-face helmet. That is unique, because many modular helmets may only be used as a full-face helmet with the chin bar closed.

The Exo-Tech Evo is available in several versions. The standard version in matt black or gloss black is already a fantastic helmet. Want the ultimate? Then the Carbon Glossy or the Onyx Forged Carbon Air is a real eye-catcher.

What I personally like so much about this helmet is the flip-up mechanism. It is smooth, solid and works intuitively. The helmet closes neatly and there is no play or creaking. That gives you confidence at higher speeds.

Scorpion EXO-930 Evo: the affordable modular helmet

If the Exo-Tech Evo is just out of your budget, the EXO-930 Evo is an excellent alternative. This modular helmet offers many of the same features, but in a polycarbonate shell that keeps the price down. It is also available in cool colour options such as the Ardens Black Chameleon with a beautiful colour shift.

Scorpion open-face and urban helmets: heading into town in style

Not everyone rides long distances or sporty. For city riders, scooter riders and café racer fans, Scorpion has a lovely range of open helmets.

Scorpion Belfast Evo: retro with modern technology

The Belfast Evo is the helmet for anyone who loves retro styling. This open-face helmet combines classic lines with modern safety and comfort. The hidden sun visor and removable liner make it a helmet that not only looks fantastic, but is also comfortable to wear.

There is also a carbon version available for those who value saving weight. The Belfast Evo suits a classic motorcycle, a scrambler or a Vespa perfectly.

Scorpion Exo Combat II: the tough streetfighter look

Want to stand out on the street? Then the Exo Combat II is your helmet. This unique helmet combines an open-face helmet with a detachable mouthpiece, so you can switch between an open look and a more protected one. Popular with custom bike riders and in the urban scene.

Scorpion adventure and off-road helmets

For the adventurers among us, Scorpion also has a strong range of adventure and off-road helmets. Whether you want to cross the Sahara or simply enjoy seeking out unpaved roads, Scorpion has a helmet for you.

Scorpion ADF-9000: ready for any adventure

The ADF-9000 is Scorpion's premium adventure helmet, recently launched at EICMA 2025. Available in both a standard and a carbon version. With a large visor, excellent ventilation and the option of fitting a peak, this is a helmet that is equally at home on the motorway and on unpaved roads.

VX-16 Evo Air: pure off-road

For dedicated motocross and enduro riders there is the VX-16 Evo Air. A light, well-ventilated off-road helmet with a generous eye port for goggles. The helmet offers excellent protection and breathes well, even on intensive rides.

Scorpion in motorsport

Scorpion isn't just a helmet brand that sells fine words. They are actively involved at the highest levels of motorsport. In MotoGP and the World Superbike Championship (WSBK), Scorpion helmets are worn by absolute top riders.

Names such as Fabio Quartararo (MotoGP world champion) and Alvaro Bautista (WSBK champion) trust Scorpion helmets for their safety at speeds of more than 300 km/h. The data and feedback from these riders are used directly to improve the helmets for you and me. That isn't a marketing story, that's how Scorpion develops its products.

Scorpion visors: colour and protection

A helmet is only complete with the right visor. Scorpion offers an extensive range of visors with which you can customise your helmet. From clear and dark smoke to beautiful iridium colours in red, blue, green and purple.

All Scorpion visors are compatible with the Pinlock MaxVision anti-fog insert, which is supplied as standard with many models. Changing the visor is child's play thanks to the Ellip-Tec system. An iridium visor not only gives your helmet a tough look, but also filters sunlight for more comfortable riding.

Who is a Scorpion helmet suitable for?

The great thing about Scorpion is that they have a suitable helmet for almost every rider. Let me break it down:

  • New riders: The EXO-520 Evo Air and EXO-530 offer excellent quality at a sharp price
  • Touring riders: The Exo-Tech Evo modular helmet is ideal for long distances thanks to its comfort and versatility
  • Sporty riders: The EXO-1400 Evo II and EXO-1500 offer race-level performance
  • City riders: The Belfast Evo and Exo City II are perfect for everyday use in town
  • Adventure riders: The ADF-9000 and ADX-2 are made for adventure
  • Glasses wearers: Thanks to the KwikFit system, almost all Scorpion helmets are suitable for glasses

How do you choose the right Scorpion helmet?

Choosing the right helmet can feel overwhelming with so many options. Here are my tips for finding the perfect Scorpion helmet:

Step 1: decide on your riding style

Do you mainly ride sportily? Choose a full-face helmet such as the EXO-1400 Evo II or EXO-1500. Do you do a lot of touring or commuting? Then a modular helmet such as the Exo-Tech Evo is a smarter choice. Do you ride in town or on a scooter? Then consider an open-face helmet.

Step 2: choose your material

Scorpion offers three types of shell: polycarbonate (lowest price), fibreglass (good balance of price and weight) and carbon (lightest and strongest, premium price). For most riders, fibreglass offers the best balance.

Step 3: measure your head size

Measure the circumference of your head at the widest point, just above your eyebrows. Scorpion helmets generally fit true to size to slightly roomy. Can't decide between two sizes? Choose the smaller size, because the liner adapts after a few rides.
